Wild Frontier founder Brenda Seefeldt has an article in the July/August 2009 issue of YouthWorker Journal . The subject for this journal is School, a subject Brenda has a lot of experience with and a lot of opinion on. I randomly found this article in the Christian Science Monitor that peaked some brainstorming. To quote from the article: “At Jill Prescott's ecole de Cuisine (a cooking school), it can be as easy as making the perfect omelet or sautéing vegetables. Students learn that when they follow the rules, master the techniques of cooking, and understand some of the chemistry of food, they experience success. When that happens, the kitchen erupts with expressions of joy: The students have taken a glob of dough, kneaded and shaped it, and turned it into a beautiful and delicious pastry.

"I've met a lot of younger people that don't want to be a traditional youth pastor or worship pastor or senior pastor. They want to take the gospel into the darkness, into the red light districcts, but traditional churches aren't structured for that." --Craig Gross

Over at our sister site of FamilyBasedYouthMinistry.org , we have updated and re-released our downloadable resource on Rites of Passage Ideas. Much has been said and written about the lack of rites of passage for teens these days. We decided to help by providing lots of real ideas. We have compiled seven life stages which a teen and young adult goes through. Each life stage has two columns of ideas. One column is for the youth worker to do something and one column is for the parent. This download makes a great resource for the youth worker and an even better resource for the youth worker to give to the parent. This is a .pdf download and is available for free HERE.

In Pair of Cleats , we've just finished a series on the Faith Shaping Tasks. We've compiled this series into one helpful downloadable resource. A youth ministry generation ago, Stephen D. Jones came up with these Faith Shaping Tasks to describe the way faith grows in children and teens and the role adults play in this. We've updated these tasks and mixed in Wild Frontier thinking. Not only will you gain simple yet transformative insight into your role as a youth leader, you will enjoy reading and reminiscing about how your faith has been shaped. This download is a great youth ministry tool to encourage you in your ministry and provides a great framework to discuss and train your volunteer staff. As a bonus, we've also included three practical ideas to apply these Faith Shaping Tasks in a youth group setting.

Wild Frontier has had an internet presence since 1994, back when non-profits were urged to be .org only. While never the most-technologically-happening website in youth ministry, we were early to adopt this new means of communication. While we've been early adopters of the World Wide Web, we've been much slower adopters to all that the web has to offer. Hence this article from Out of Ur has blessed our efforts or lack of efforts. Read on as you think about how you are going to live your Wild Frontier faith in this new year.

I realize that most websites have active blogs with the purpose of getting to know the people behind the ministry. It is a commendable idea but it is not for me. Through prayer and pondering, this is why I don't blog: |

I've been living out a story that I thought I would never have to. One of "my kids" was arrested for murder. It's hard enough to fathom that he witnessed a murder, a violent shooting death over a drug deal gone bad. But he was there, in the car along for a ride to the mall. Suddenly his entire life is different. And I'm feeling pain I never imagined bearing. |
