New Pair of Cleats: The Extended Family’s Role in Youth Ministry

For the start of Advent, one of our 8th graders at my church, the one who has grown to be taller than his own father over the past year, showed up to church wearing a suit and a tie. I was wearing jeans that day (dress jeans for those who understand that fashion) and the practice for the rest of the staff is to rarely wear a tie. Randy’s appearance was a shock to us, many whom have known him his entire life.

Rites of Passage Ideas Resource

Over at our sister site of FamilyBasedYouthMinistry.org (http://www.familybasedyouthministry.org) , we have updated and re-released our downloadable resource on Rites of Passage Ideas. Much has been said and written about the lack of rites of passage for teens these days. We decided to help by providing lots of real ideas. We have compiled seven life stages which a teen and young adult goes through. Each life stage has two columns of ideas. One column is for the youth worker to do something and one column is for the parent. This download makes a great resource for the youth worker and an even better resource for the youth worker to give to the parent. This is a .pdf download and is available for free HERE.
WF Youth Ministry Insight--What Do You Think?

Short-term trips (STMs) are contemporary versions of an ancient Christian practice called pilgrimage. (Perhaps we should call them STPs). A pilgrim goes on a journey to meet God in a faraway place, hoping to return as a different person from the one who left. In medieval times, Europe particularly was crisscrossed with pilgrimage routes, with the destination usually being a notable church or site of a saint's relics.

The Youth Worker Book of Hope Featuring Brenda Seefeldt

The Youth Worker Book of Hope is a compilation and true stories of mistakes and epiphanies from actual youth workers who have been through the valley and learned from it. In Brenda's chapter, When Parents Don't Respect You , she talks about the epiphany she had nine years ago that changed her ministry after 19 years of being Brenda-centric. Of course, that led to the creation of this resource site. Other true stories are When the Van Breaks Down, When Your Spouse Gets Ignored, When You Fail Morally. The Youth Worker Book of Hope is available at www.youthspecialties.com (http://www.youthspecialties.com/) and bookstores everywhere.
