Page 2 of 2 Personal Angry with God by Michele Novotni and Randy Peterson A good Christian wouldn't admit that he/she is angry with God, right? Yes, and this book is a great way to work through this anger. The personal and captivating story of the author's grandmother guides the reader through this process. This is a real book for someone going through faith-shaking trials. The Unexpected Teachings of Jesus by John Coleman A fresh look at the gospels of Jesus. Makes a great devotional book. Messy Spirituality by Mike Yaconelli Written by one who has experienced the Christian faith for over 40 years as well as serving as a minister. This is his reawakening to true spirituality. It is refreshing for the thirsty soul. This book would make a great group study. Fearless Faith by John Fischer The title is an oxymoron but that is only one of the many questions this book raises about the Christian subculture and how our faith survives in it as well as the world. It is an update on Real Christians Don't Dance but not in the same great writing style. This book would make a great group study. Real Christians Don't Dance by John Fischer This is the first of John Fischer's books and is full of Wild Frontier thinking. This book, written in 1988, formed a lot of who Wild Frontier is today. It is also written in a great writing style. True Believers Don't Ask Why by John Fischer We know that all believers do ask God why but are afraid to admit it because it has the appearance of having a lack of faith. This book counters that defeating thought because it is questions that brings us into a deeper relationship with God. Making Real What I Already Believe by John Fischer Using the brilliant illustration of the cycle of a tree (the tree outside of his office window), John Fischer takes you through his faith journey. Those who have been journeying for a long time will recognize this journey and learn from this journey, particularly when the tree is not in full bloom and the sap is drawn deep within. This book is an annual read for Wild Frontier founder, Brenda Seefeldt. 12 Steps for the Recovering Pharisee (Like Me) by John Fischer This book provides a great recovery program for those caught up in the church. Be ready to face yourself and put yourself through this program. This book would make a great group study. Reaching for the Invisible God by Philip Yancey God is not in a box nor are there steps to reach Him. He is invisible and sometimes His ways are invisible. This is an excellent book for those who wrestle with God and want to know more. Wrestling with God by Rick Diamond Just the title makes it a Wild Frontier thing. This is a simple to read book on Wild Frontier's favorite subject. Parents Recommendations Before It's Too Late by Stanton Samenow This is a must read for every parent. The author begins with a great description of antisocial youth which is not the antisocial personality disorder. This describes that youth who is born into a family who is the "black sheep" or "not like all the other children." A very good description to help parents in dealing with such a child. Very eye opening also for the youth worker. But more than that, this book gives every preventative measure a parent needs to help raise all of their children, whether they have a difficult child or not. The best information out there for concerned parents. Revolutionary Parenting by George Barna Renowned researcher Georger Barna turned his methods loose on parenting. The plethora of parenting books can be divided into two categories: parenting by default which is adopting the parenting habits that are driven from a changing culture; and experimental parenting or learning the trial-by-error methods from the "experts." Barna wanted to research out a different kind of parenting, a kind of parenting that used biblical commands, principles, and narrative to raise children with a faith in God that would last into adulthood. His research methods included personal interviews with more than ten thousand young adults in their twenties who were leading "transformed" lives and their parents. The results of the research is the book. Unlike other parenting books which make parents feel like failures because they aren't doing what the so-called experts recommend, this book offers snippets and insight from parents who have actually did what all Christian parents want to do compiled to give parents hope and an outline so they can also raise "spiritual champions." Faithful Parents, Faith Kids by Greg Johnson and Mike Yorkey This is a text book for parenting. Reads like one but also gives the best information available. The chapter on discipline alone is worth the price of the book. There are thousands of books on Christian parenting all which don't say much at all. Really. This one is a rare one that does. Putting Family First by William Doherty and Barbara Z. Carlson Families are so hurried today keeping up with everyone's schedules that family time is often overlooked and maybe not even missed--until that late into the night thought when you remember what your childhood used to be like. This book helps families regain that family time amongst this overscheduled culture. Growing Compassionate Kids by Jan Johnson The subtitle of this book is "Helping Kids See Beyond Their Backyard" and that is exactly what this book does and what our youth need. This book is encouraging and gives you subtle and direct ways to grow compassionate kids. Parenting at the Speed of Life by Rick Osborne This is a small book with simple but worth-mentioning tips to maximize those moments you have with your children in today's fast-paced life. The design of the book itself is helpful. If you like Moms & Pops Stuff, you will love this book.
