Raging to God–Teen Version

shoes3I know a teen. He could look like this.

lt. dan

He has reasons to rage against God. Legitimate reasons. Lots of them. Not-his-fault reasons. Yet he won’t.

I wish he would.

But to do so would open him up to all of his pain. Again, it is legitimate pain. He’d have to feel it. All of it. It would leave him raw. And vulnerable. This is a place he is afraid to go to. Continue reading

The Vulnerable Climb

shoes3This is a shot of John and I from the top of Kelso Dunes. It is one of my favorite photos ever of us. This is the one they can use at our funerals.

kelso

Kelso Dunes is found in southern California inside the Mojave Desert. The dune field covers 45 square miles and includes migrating dunes, vegetation-stabilized dunes, sand sheets, and sand ramps. The tallest dunes rise up to 650 feet above the surrounding terrain. That is where we are. The tallest dune. Continue reading

Whole-Hearted Living

shoes3I’m a public Dr. Brene’ Brown fan. Her research has connected to what I believe is Wild Frontier living. I’ve been loving this Wild Frontier kind of living since I first heard the Randy Stonehill song back in 1986 when my brother gave me the album (vinyl) for Christmas. It speaks to the sort of life I believe God wants us to live NOW. Why do we have to wait for heaven to live whole like this? Our life in heaven begins the moment we accept Jesus into our hearts. He walks with us NOW redeeming every part of our lives. Yes, when I cross into heaven I will get to physically walk with Jesus and have these long discussions (can’t wait). But now He walks with me as close as He can through this sin barrier so living in heaven with Jesus has already begun. The possibilities of this has already begun. That is Wild Frontier living.

Dr. Brene’ Brown’s research backs this up. Yes, research backs this up. It is something she calls this wholehearted living.

Her research found that “whole-hearteds” have these characteristics:

“Whole-hearteds have the courage to be imperfect.” The courage to be imperfect. In a Hollywood-driven world with this bad definition of perfection, whole-hearteds have the bravery to live imperfect. Let that thought soak in. Breathe it in. Continue reading

Vulnerable Shoes

shoes3Do you remember your 8th grade year? Do you remember desiring to stand out or trying to do everything you can to fit in?

For me it was trying to get that Farrah Fawcett hair to fit in. Yes, I certainly dated myself with that reference. I never came close to that look back then and then laughed at myself when I accomplished it in my 40s.

Look at these shoes.

“I think we have to keep trying to love life even when it hurts our feelings.”

shoes3This is living vulnerably. But I didn’t say this. A 5-year old did. So I insist that you click through and read this article from Family Circle.
